AT HOME FLOWER CARE
Share
You’ve received a stunning bouquet from Sonic BLOOM and want it to last forever, but know that’s impossible, of course. But, how do you make your flowers live their best life? Here are a few tips to extend bloom longevity and get the most out of your flowers:
- They need water. No surprise there. Check water levels every day or two, especially in opaque containers where water level isn’t visible. Top ‘em up!
- Place in an area away from direct sun, heat/ac vents, and pets.
- Resist the urge to touch the beautiful blooms. Flower petals can easily bruise or crease and some are affected by the oils in our skin.
- Remove wilted blooms so that the energy and water is focused on healthy ones. It’s just like gardening!
Let’s dive deeper. Flowers can be designed in two ways - arranged in a container or hand-tied and wrapped beautifully to be placed in your own vase. We send an enclosure card with each design that has specific care instructions on the back.
- If your flowers are in a container already, just follow the above tips. Easy peasy flowers please me.
- If your design is hand-tied , first thing you need to do is unwrap them. Feels like Christmas doesn’t it!? Prepare your container by filling it with water and flower food (half of the package is sufficient - save the other half for a future water change). In a perfect world, use sharp gardening clippers and cut stems on an angle. In a non-perfect world (likely!), use kitchen scissors or whatever you have on hand. The sharper the better because dull clippers can crush stems instead of cutting them. The angle cut allows more water to be taken up by stems because there is a larger surface area than a straight cut. Place them into the container - voila. If you want to get an A+ in flower care, repeat the above steps with a clean vase and fresh water/food on a weekly basis.
Let’s talk about how long flowers should last. We have heard SO MANY people telling us their flowers lasted WEEKS! This is awesome, but isn’t always the case. So many things can effect flowers: the weather (wind, am I right???), the season, travel time, a tiny air bubble, the variety of flower, how they were handled before they arrive at our studio, how they are handled after they leave the studio, etc. Honestly, mother nature can be unpredictable and sometimes it’s hard to remember that flowers are from the Earth and require nurturing and patience. Since we are florists and not wizards (unfortunately), we guarantee our flowers life for 5 days from time of delivery/pick-up. If one or any of the flowers fade before this, we want to know! There are lots of steps and processes we go through to maximize flower life before they go out into the world. Letting us know if you have any concerns allows us to fix any issues and can help us learn and problem solve for the future.
We hope this is helpful for all your at home floral needs and if you have any questions, give us a call or message anytime!
