BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP

BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP

Just two girls who love flowers

Who became best friends

Who followed a dream

And opened a floral studio

Who would have thought?! Going into business is a leap of faith ... x2 when it’s a partnership. Our relationship began working together at a flower shop and we soon realized that the passion to grow was something we had in common. After a couple coffee dates, brainstorming sessions (and a quick trip to the Dominican Republic to clear Bee’s mind), Sonic BLOOM was born (bang!). It was a humble beginning in the windowless unfinished spider infested basement - but it worked, and here’s why:

  • Divide and conquer. Lean on each other’s strengths. Bee built the cooler and Kaley took a course on starting your own business. We each excel (and struggle) with certain things. Want an idea? Ask Kaley. Want something done? Ask Bee. Acknowledge each others strengths and weaknesses and celebrate them daily.
  • Even though we have different strengths, deep down we are the same person. We can finish each others Disney lyrics and exchange a glance and know exactly what’s going on.
  • Open and honest communication - even when it doesn’t feel good. Don’t let it fester. We know each others crap. Our studio is a safe space where we share everything - especially non-work related stuff. Life stuff. Feelings are not facts, but the fact is that we have feelings. And some of us can’t hide them (Kaley) while others do too good of a job of putting on a brave face (Bee).
  • Start each day with a hug. We do!
  • Laugh. Laugh lots. Laugh even when you shouldn’t (Kaley). If we aren’t enjoying it - what’s the point? We aren’t delusional though, because it’s really hard in so many ways. A lot of times we are figuring it out as we go, just like everyone else (and just like this blog).
  • Our partnership reaches further than the biz. We support one another outside the studio walls too. Because newsflash - everything is connected (especially the single brain cell we share).
  • TRUST. We trust each other in our skills, choices and dedication.

We are sitting here in our new studio, illuminated with natural light, thinking, “How the heck are we qualified to tell people how to navigate a business partnership”? Because we are not. This is what works for us. We grow together and struggle together. The only thing we know for sure - we don’t want to do it without each other.
